LUXE PAWS

California taxpayers spend approximately $400 million annually to house, care for and euthanize unwanted animals in shelters. Shouldn’t our goal be to reduce the number of unwanted animals?

Each cat spayed prevents at least 12 kittens from ever needing to be sheltered which equals more homes for the most needy.

Many people aren’t aware how dire the problem is. Things like “no kill” & adoption alone won’t prevent future generations of animals from taxing an already overwhelmed system.

We’re a small team of part time volunteers, laser-focused on ensuring cats are spayed or neutered. Our volunteers donate their time to what’s known as high-intensity Trap/Neuter/Return or “TNR” in the northeast region of L.A. We rescue the youngest, the most at-risk who won’t make it into a shelter.

We hope our volunteer work inspires more animal advocates to help animals in their local community, to support & grow free spay/neuter programs, foster or adopt a needy animal right in your neighborhood.

WHY SPAY/NEUTER ?

L.A. is home to an estimated 3 million homeless cats and just 4.9 million people. Many people see strays, but aren’t aware that 1 female cat can have 12-16 kittens PER YEAR. Kittens are going into heat as young as 5-6 months old, so half a dozen cats will quickly blossom intO 20 or more in just 12 months.

So what’s the most humane way to control the population of homeless cats & why not just try to adopt them all out? a majority of the “homeless cats’ haven’t been socialized with humans, they’re wild or ‘feral’ and if they’re trapped & taken to a shelter, almost all are killed.

“No kill” & relying on adoptions does nothing to prevent future generations. trap/neuter/return breaks the breeding cycle & is the most humane way to reduce the growing number homeless cats.

Fewer unwanted litters born frees up space at rescues & shelters & for all the cats & kittEns out there now who need a safety net.
